Hi there,

I am renting in a house in Dublin city centre but for contents insurance I need to give information of the year of build of the property.

Does anybody know if there is an online resource for this?

These maps are from about 1845 and 1905, so second half of 19th century for the original cottages.

Why would they have it? The cottages may well have been built before there was any requirement for planning permission. And of course they may have been built before Ballsbridge was incorporated into the Dublin Corporation functional area (which didn't happen until 1930).

There are probably rate collection records somewhere which will show when Pembroke Township first started collecting rates in respect of the property, but they will be buried fairly deeply in some archive.

You can tell from looking at the house and its surrounds what kind of era it's likely to date from. After that you can do things like look at old maps and old volumes of Thom's directory from that era to see when the house first turns up.

The insurer probably doesn't want or need an exact year. If you say "before 1900" or "c. 1920" or whatever, that's probably going to be acceptable.

Just a tip for ya: if the answer is more than 100 years ago, then online systems probably won't quote for it. Call them instead.

Tip for those in relatively modern homes that may come across this thread in searches: double-glazed PVC windows usually have dates printed somewhere along the edge where the glass meets the frame. This can give an indication of approximate build date.
