Engine oil

    Howdy,

    My 2012 VAG TDI (143hp) which I believe needs VW507 spec oil got a service last week. The garage is a former main dealer, not VAG, mechanic who does all makes. No issues with him, but I'm confused over something. He put fully synth 5w40 into it but I never asked whether it met VW507.

    Would it be likely that the bulk oil that mechanics would have would meet VW507? Is VW507 the right spec?

    Ill chase it up with him later when I see him again, as I do not wanna bug him till I'm more sure. New (used) car, new specs, getting to grips with it.

    What brand of the oil? Ask the garage for a bottle - the info has to be there.
