    Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice. My boy is 2.5 and I'd like to introduce him to a preschool setting part time from next January. He will be entitled to a free pre-school year from the following september. We live on the cork Road and have heard great things about the pre-school at Kingfisher. Is it appropriate to make enquiries during the summer break or should I wait until September.
Has anyone any other recommendations or advice? Hes very inquisitive and loves to learn so I would like to help him progress while interacting with other kids, he's currently with a childminder and no other kids.

    Thank you

I don't have any direct experience but I've heard good things about kingfisher too. It's never too early enquire so I'd definitely ring.

Put your expression of interest ASAP
And do it in more than one place. To be sure, to be sure.

Personally, I go with Waterford Childcare Centre, business park where the An Post sorting office is.

It will be good for your son to get to be in other kids' company and socialise a bit. Don't be surprised if he doesn't latch on to any particular child as a friend though. Lots of kids don't make real 'friends' till later on in primary school and some even later. It's natural for some kids, not a sign of anything negative.
Personally I wouldn't worry about him learning letters etc. I know some parents want this from a preschool. Social skills are much more important at this stage imo.
I don't have any info on Kingfisher. I know that Play Together in Carrickpheirish is excellent and play-oriented.
