Not sure I am in the right forum. I have three old photos from the 70's I just scanned at 300 dpi. I would like to get them printed as large as possible for a family event. Any recommendations welcome. Thanks.

    Where are you?

    How large are the originals?

How large do you want them?

What quality do they need to be?

I'm lying on my couch. I can upload photos from here. I also have a car.
    The originals are 8x10
I would like them as large as possible while still being pleasant to view. I don't know how big they can go. 3ft by 3ft?
The quality doesn't need to be advertorial. They are old so people expect flaws.

The maximum size printable will depend on two factors (IMHO). The quality of the originals and the distance at which they will be viewed.

Is there any chance you have access to the negatives? If so, negs can be scanned at about 3600dpi (any more is a waste of time, the chemical grains are too large and would not yield any further detail, just waste hard disk space, with a few exceptions).

Based on the negs you could produce an image of approximately 3' x 2' at 144 dpi. That's assuming the image was well exposed and sharp. And viewed from about 3'-5' away, depending on your eyesight :)

If you only have the prints, at 10x8, then I would consider 3'x2' to be a bit of a stretch. The prints can be scanned and "improved" - a few people on here can do it for you - maybe post it as a challenge?

The type of scanner you use, the software and your experience with it will make a difference.

Post an image and let's see what there is to work with. But look for the negs!
