VW boot opening when I close it

Wrap your head around that one!

So when I go to close my boot, as the lid is closing, I can hear the boot release mechanism firing, and my boot lid just bounces off the boot. If I go slowly, it doesnt fire, and it closes fine. It's as though the sudden shift in gravity is causing it to fire.

    Thoughts?

    Car model and age?
Possibly the electrical wiring going to the boot in a loom may be damaged.

Check the loom, it looks like this

    Woops. Sorry. Vital information that.

Its a 2009 VW Passat CC. I've narrowed down the problem since I posted. Its the loom :(
Where the wiring comes into the boot from the boot lid arm it bends and flexes. That point seems to have broken down enough to short out (maybe 1 wire breaking the circuit, or perhaps 2 wires touching off each other).

I've the NCT next week, so I'll not toy with it until after then (incase I take out a light or 2). After that, i'll open out the boot, see what the damage is, and either solder or buy a new loom. :(

The tailgate wiring loom is a popular fail in those. A new loom is around €100~ ish from a main dealer iirc.

You'd fit one DIY nearly handier than stripping the boot back and resoldering etc, they don't take long.

You're actually in a good position with yours. Generally on the CC's the first people realise of it is when the boot is stuck closed which makes the job a bit trickier.

How would replacing it be easier than resoldering? I'd have to strip back the boot to feed the loom in and connect everything up.

Does your Passat have keyless entry? My Passat has keyless and will open the boot if the key is detected in the boot to stop you locking it in the car.

Lol. That's quite funny. VW didn't test that scenario so. No Keyless entry for me. It only fires when the boot Is halfway closed

Rang VW. About €56 for a new harness. Easy decision at that money

Some nicely flexed wires there. Guess my latch release is the broken one.
