    Hi guys,

My brothers and I aren't seasoned golfers, more pitch and putt players. We don't own a set of clubs or have a car. To play golf we must get buses from kimmage to ballymun to play at siloge as its the only public course we know of. Any other suggestions? As I'm looking to try a new course. We're not looking to become members as we play about 3 times per year only.

The issue may be getting to the course as we only have public transport as means of transportation.

Pretty much any golf course is a public one. As in you can pay a green fee and play. If you look at sites like teetimes.ie you'll find one in reach at decent prices.

But you do need golf clubs. Hiring them is very expensive (relatively). You'd find a good set of irons cheap on eBay, DoneDeal or Adverts for the price of a couple of hires.

Edit: Stepaside, Ballinascorney and Kilmashogue are pretty close to you and pretty cheap for green fees as well as not being too long.

If you could get out to Grange Castle. They'll rent clubs for around 20-30 euros, green fees are generally around 25. 7 hole course there also. Give them a buzz for more info.

Grangecastle is a good course, theres one up past stepaside too cant remember the name but the 44 goes by the gate, Corballis out the northside is nice but someone else might let you know how accessable it is

I think that's actually Stepaside Golf Club. It has a good driving range too iirc.

Its a decent 9 hole course (been a few years since I've played it. Driving range and par 3 are separate business across the road.

    LOL. It's called Stepaside :D

FYI, the driving range is over the road, not on the same grounds. The golf course is a public one and is only 9 holes. Haven't played it in a few years for the following reasons although I used to play it a lot when I was a kid. It's grand for beginners, I wouldn't send any kind of a golfer there though. You will get much better courses for not much more money. It's not great, but not a bad layout, very short, but condition and maintenance is always poor, you will get (and I'll probably get slaughtered for saying this) the tracksuit brigade up there drinking cans, not able to play golf, and be prepared for a very slow game.

Elm Green is probably a notch or 2 above, as would be Corballis. I'm not aware of any other public courses in Dublin. Grange Castle has already been mentioned as of course has Sillogue.
