My head is absolutely spinning after trying to navigate revenue.ie!!

We married in June 2014. Was advised today that i should be claiming my husband's tax credits. I was told that it could be completed on revenue.ie but very difficult to do, boy were they right!

So can anyone advise me on how to do this? Do i ring tax office and hope they will be of help (- laughing as i type that!)
or employ an accountant/ tax advisor to do it for me? Any help appreciated.

    It's quite straightforward. Use https://www.ros.ie/myaccount-web/home.html

Most of Revenues services are gone online to be pretty much simplified self service. This one is still a manual application. You need to complete an IT2 (assessable spouse) form and request a year of marriage review for 2014. From your post it seems like you are looking for joint assessment.
In a joint assessment case you can claim some of your spouse's credits and rate band not all. It's max 9000 euro of the rate band and the 1650 personal credit. This assumes you spouse isn't using them for their own taxable income.

    Link below should assist.

Thanks for the replies folks. So i have printed off the "assessable spouse" form, have ticked the appropriate box for me to claim my husband's credits, have a copy of both P60s....
so it's just a case of popping in post now amd waiting yeah?

(It does not seem to be something that can be completed online.)

Yeah, pop in the post and include a cover letter stating you are looking for a year of marriage review for 2014 as well. If you have children and your spouse is looking after them as well with no income you may also be entitled to the home carers tax credit.

Do you mind me asking how you got on? Did it take long to get processed and has it made much difference to you? Thanks

I only sent off the forms a month ago and received confirmation that we would now be jointly assessed last week. I also posted off both our P60s for the past 3 years (since we were married) and was told we would get back a couple of thousand - we got €600! Still its better than nothing.

The paperwork we got back was like doubledutch to us so I suppose we just have to be trusting and hope all is in order.
Definitely saw a saving this payslip but I'm nit sure if that is because it was the first since the adjustment so the next one will be interesting.

Thanks for coming back so quickly. Better the €600 in your pocket!
