Would seem Youtube has a new UI that's been rolled out this morning. Previously you could enable it with /new in the url but I do believe it's now the standard youtube website.

They're calling the redesign a "Material theme" redesign which was done in order to bring the Desktop version of the site more inline with their mobile site. Material Design (see link 1) was rolled out by google and is mean to provide a unified design style for all of google.

The new UI is built using the Polymer Library which is a library that allows you to create Web Components in a material design style app for the web ( See link 2 ). Using this framework YouTube says it will have "quicker feature development from here on out."

What does everyone else think of this new UI?

Strange they worked for me earlier on, I shall edit the post.

My apologies, copying from the post removed chars from them.

You can opt-in to the new design at https://www.youtube.com/new, if it's not already enabled (which it wasn't for me).

    Doesn't look much different.

    Not any more you can't.
This preview is closed... for now
Thanks for your interest in helping us with the new desktop design! We've got a tonne of feedback that we're reading through, so we've closed the opt-in.

Be sure to come back to youtube.com/new for other opportunities to try out new products we're working on.

They must not like you :-P

I was able to opt-in a couple of hours ago. Page still loads now, just to tell me I've already opted in.

Same here. I think youTube has a awful interface. Its primary purpose seems to be to funnel targeted content. It never shows me stuff I'm likely to be interested in but instead shows me populist drivel for kids. The amount of noise to real content is a appalling.

It reminds me of how different search engines, say dogpile vs bing vs google show entirely different result for the same query.

On Windows phone because there was no official apps there were 3rd party apps which were far better. On Android no one seems to have bothered making a really good alternative.

Isn't this just Google's standard UI look and feel applied to Youtube? Seems a bit overdue really.

Tried it last night, didn't like it at all. Thankfully I found how to roll back to the old look.
