I was wondering if there are any very old pumps in Ireland that are still being used. Preferably ones with the rotating counters rather than 7-segment displays.

I passed a few proper oldschool ones today near Birdhill, Co. Limerick and there's a neatly restored one from way back when near me (will post pic soon) but sadly, neither are still pumping petrol.

This one below is still working as is an identical albeit more decrepit one in Bantry, but it ain't a petrol pump. So my quest to find the oldest working petrol pump in the country is still going

I was delighted to stumble upon this place a month or so ago when I was on the reserve supply and very far from home. It's in Drumsna, Co. Leitrim, and I was surprised to see that the pumps actually worked once I pulled in.

They're not ancient, but the oldest working pumps I've seen in a while from a lot of driving around the country. Apologies about the small pic, the best I could find was a rip from Google Maps.

I think this one has been around since the year dot, but isn't working. The light on top was only recently added. I wonder what it would take to get it going again

Get rid of the Elf and Safety and their nanny state rules for a start I'd say.

What kind of Elf and Safety is preventing these pumps from being used? Do they have a fatal design flaw that causes them to randomly go on fire?

i remember pumps on the footpath on almost every country village when i was growing up, then they all were either removed, or not used anymore.

I thought that there was some EU regulation stating that they had to be x distance from the road, or something like that .. i could be completely wrong

I had to pull off the M9 and got petrol late in Ballyhale from an old rotary pump, about 10 years ago.

I was driving a V6 petrol landcruiser, and I had to correct the shop assistant/owner when she said 30 euro , no says I,

    it's actually 130 euro,

I was glad of the facility to get fuel late and I certainly wasn't going to take advantage, but I'm sure many did, no doubt hastening the demise of old pumps, that only went to 99.99.

Kilmacthomas, Waterford. It's been more than 2 and a half years since I left Ireland, so not sure if these pumps are still there. Place is/was expensive but fully functioning. Always looked old to me.

Honarary mention to the (what was) Esso station in Ballyvolane, Cork. Unleaded pumps were held together by ratchet straps for years.
