Cost of Fillings

    Hi there,

I (28 year old male) recently went for a dental check up and was I would need 8 fillings which would cost about €880 (white composite). My friends and family were kind of shocked at the amount of fillings and the cost, and suggested I get a 2nd opinion. I

My mother can't remember if I ever got a filing before but I've generally had great teeth and I know I for certain haven't had any in the last 15 years anyway. Are fillings normal? Is 8 in one go excessive? Do most people get them at some point?

The dentist also thought I had crossbite and that I grind my teeth in my sleep, which must be recent things as my previous dentist never noted anything like that.

    Any advise appreciated. Thanks.

35 male.....just had 7 fillings over two appointments. Only had one previously and ignored appointments for a couple of years.

Went in for braces consultation and these needed done before I could do anything else. Was shocked myself but Id hate to think any dentist would recommend a filling when one wasn't needed.

Costs seem middle of the road - some places will be more expensive (enquire whether a rubber dam is used - a technique to isolate the teeth for treatment).
Nothing wrong with a second opinion.

I just got quoted for a white composite filling in a molar - I think it was also €110. City centre Dublin.

In the past I had to get multiple fillings over a short period of time, then nothing for years, until this one filling was suggested

But yes, do get a second opinion.

Why do you not use your previous dentist? TBH, it sounds like your previous dentist missed quite a few things. Sure, get a 2nd opinion, but your family may be basing the price of fillings against the cheaper grey stuff?
