Hi just wondering is there any issue with topping up with 5w30 engine oil instead of 5w40? The car is a VW golf mk5 1.6 petrol (2006). Normally always use 5w40 but I have a very early drive to Cork to do in the morning and the engine oil light just popped on, all I have is 5w30 in the house, both Gulf and Castro brands. The Gulf is fully synthetic.

As long as the oil meets the car specs I think it will be fine.

Any oil is better than no oil. I think you should be safe enough.
