Yes, I'd say it will run the course of it's licence until February 2019, It has bigger debts than txfm had and with it's owners concentrating so much on Nova, it's unlikely they'll reapply for the licence imo.

Like TXFM, it will simply come down to whither or not the station has any possibility of making money over the next 10 years.

How did things end up this bad at 4 Fm? Are there any other stations heading the same way..

I blame Niall Boylan with his made up hysterical stories and fake callers!

He seems to manage to get listeners though....

Some callers seem to be the only ones that ever call though.

It seems a trend across all these types of phone in shows though.

I find they are extremely similar and the very odd time there might be something interesting.

I listened lots for first few years but very little now. They have a big cork following yet its very dublin focused. Replace it with somthing else ie nova or 8radio.

Is it actually in debt or just not making money?

Be sad to see it go under in favour of Nova, they both have a fair bit to offer different markets, although doesnt seem to ever do well in the ratings in Dublin.

Maybe something radical needs to be done here like concentrating on Galway, Cork and Limerick. The problem now is that the licence includes Dublin which is too competitive - Q102, Sunshine 106.8 and Nova are all aiming for a similar target audience. If somehow the license was amended to be a non-Dublin regional station, it would have a better chance at this stage. I'm not sure if that can be done though.

If it was able to concentrate on being a music driven station instead of having Boylan on for 6 hours a day sticking out like a sore thumb it would have a bigger chance of succeeding.

There are places for talk shows. An over 45s music driven service is not one of them.

Are you sure it's not over 35s?

Well I've heard quite a few modern pop songs on the station lately. And surely a show like 90s at Night would be more aimed at 20/30 somethings?

Of course but they have completely charged the original format of the station and of course the bai gave them green light.

Older people listen to modern songs too. I'd imagine what you heard was Adele/Ed Sheeran etc?

Someone who was 18 in 1990 is 45 now. I think the 90s at Night show is a positive move from an evolutionary point of view. People who are now coming into the category 4FM are aiming for would be far more in tune with the output of 90s at Night than 60s at Night

That argument has always annoyed me and it explains why 4fm have no listeners in Dublin, if someone over 50 wants to listen to Ed Sheeran, a bit of 90s music and a failed comedian on breakfast then they could listen to almost every other music station on the FM dial.

PJ Gallagher was very successful and popular in the mid-2000s.

I only found 4FM recently and I quite like it. Still wouldn't listen to it in the mornings because I really don't like morning comedy. Nova in the morning and 4FM in the evening seems to work for me but I always had an older taste in music anyway.
