Sonos play 5 vs separates

    Hi

Was thinking of getting a Sonos Play 5, then adding another and perhaps a Sub to make a 2.1 system. Airplay is essential and they seem to get good results.

Would £500 be better spent on a play 5 and gradually add to it over the next few months, or would the money be better spent on an airplay capable receiver and 2 bookshelf speakers? e.g. https://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/mini-hi-fi-system-deals/pah012841

Could you suggest anything? Airplay and sound quality are the main factors.

    Thanks

    Hi Nonoperational.

    Thanks for the post.

They really are two different beasts.
A 2.1 using 2 play 5's and the sub would come in at around £1500.00 and if you compared this to a HiFi at the same price the HiFi would win hands down.

You will always get a better sound from separates in my opinion.
The MCR611 with the wharfdale speakers would sound excellent.

If you went form the same unit the MCR611 with the Zensor ones at £479 you would be most impressed.

Or even something like the Yamaha RN402 paired with the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 I could offer at a deal price of £550.00

Ya I agree. I suppose my query would be would the separates at around €500 sound as good as a single sonos 5. I suspect they would?

    Hey Nonoperational.

In my opinion it would sound better.

Don't get me wrong the Sonos does sound very good also but its more the features and its minimal look that helps sell the Sonos.

It really is hard to beat HiFi separates.

    Kenny is such a diplomat..

A Yamaha RN402 with Monitor Audio Bronze 2 will blow a Sonos Play 5 outa the water!
