Hi folks, I have been "tipped off" that there maybe position becoming vacant in my local hospital for a maintenance electrician. Anyone know the rates, allowances or even disadvantages of this kind of work IF I were to throw my hat into the ring. Thanks

According to this slightly out of date document, which is for a HSE maintenance electrician:

The salary scale for the post (as at 01/11/2013) is:
    €31,352 - €32,363 - €34,836 - €35,084 - €35,333 - €35,581 - €35,831 - €36,080 - €36,328 - €36,578 - €36,855

TEEU rates not paid by HSE for qualified electricians?

Ive always wondered why HSE sparks have such a low rate? 10 years in the HSE and youre earning less than an industrial electrician whose just out of their time.

It's certainly a strange one, not often you see HSE and low pay in the same sentence especially for a qualified position! Extra holidays, decent pension may also be a consideration

Afaik there are standby and on-call payments as well. And in some locations there may also be week-end rates.

I have no idea, I just found the document I linked to on a HSE website. As this is a 2013 document the salary may have slightly improved. As I am sure you are aware there are plenty of electricians out there that are not paid the TEEU rate as the REA's no longer exist.

.....unless you are a nurse of course, in which case you can add "over worked" to the same sentence.
