Toilet freshener flushed down the toilet

What a wonderful way to start a bank holiday Monday.

One of my little heroes decided to flush a harpic caged toilet freshener down the toilet, water keeps rising now every time I've flushed since. I've put on the rubber gloves and tried reaching in, no joy. Ive tried a clothes hanger, no joy. I've used a plunger to try a pressure it out into the drain, no joy (I have drain open to watch the flow). I've put rods in through the drain outside to try and break it up, no joy. I've put down soap and hot water now to try a lube it through, I'll leave it settle. I'm out out of ideas now.

    Any ideas folks?

Whatever you do, do not use a plunger to push it further down the pipe as it could prove more difficult to retrieve.
If no joy with a coat hanger or gloves I would usually try a wet vac. Failing that I would remove the toilet and usually find them stuck on the connection between the toilet and the drain pipe.

Thanks K, I'd say it's stuck the other side of the u pipe, toilet may have to come out, was hoping to avoid that. It's a pity the fresheners aren't made of a certain plastic that breaks up after a certain time immersed in water!

They are a damn nuisance when they go down, more often than not the toilet ends up coming out.
Check where the pipe goes, there may be am inspection cap that could be opened which may allow you to rod back towards the toilet.

It's the understairs toilet that, after the u-pipe has a straight pipe leading to outside the front door where there's a drain opening, tried rodding backwards through that way towards the toilet earlier. Was looking at Jeyes fluids and drain unblockers in the shop earlier, think they're only for hair and sludge blockages. If it just got passed the u-bend it'd have a straight pipe to where I could just pick it out.

Jeyes Fluid and Drain un-blockers will be a waste of money. Needs to be manually fished or pushed out.

As mentioned above the toilet will most likely need to come out. More often than not it catches on the folds of the multiwick if one is present.
