Still waiting to hear back about rescheduled driving test

    Hi all,

As of June this year I have my third learner permit, and to do so I applied for a driving test. That said due to my anxiety issues and the slow pace of progress with my driving I didn't take the test but on my online application I requested to have it rescheduled for whenever a test date becomes available. Basically I was back to sqaure one, and what the status of my application was when I initially applied for my driving test, the only difference is thatnow I have a new in-date learner permit and I paid for a test I rescheduled because I still need more practice to be competent
    enough.

Does anyone know if its likely I will be given another test date or if the money is refundable? I have mentally accepted that a refund mightn't be possible because in the last few months I got my own car and insured it for a good price so it won't be the end of the world if I don't get that money back, although it would still be nice to have.

I also feel confident that by June of next year when I will need to do a test if worst comes to worst and I need to get a fourth learner permit I will be competent enough to pass my driving test.

    Regards,
    M

How many times have you cancelled the initial test date? You can cancel twice, but the third time - if you fail to turn up or cancel - it's non-refundable.

You can always email them explaining your situation. I did similar to you, on the 2nd cancellation, and was given a date a good eight months afterwards. No idea if my email explaining my situation did any good, but eight months for a test date is a bit unusual (double what I have heard is the normal time for busy areas).

    Thank you for the response.

I didn't cancel, but I rescheduled my test twice. Once for the date I booked and showed proof of to apply for a third learner permit, for that date there was an available reschedule date, I rescheduled that date again as I still wasn't prepared enough at the time for my test but there were no available slots that time so I picked to have a date arranged for me and haven't heard anything back.

Would the RSA assume that my second reschedule attempt was a cancellation or take it as another reschedule? The fact it can take eight months is reassuring I mightn't have done anything wrong necessarily.

Sorry, I might not have been clear: I rescheduled twice (my understanding is that a reschedule is the same as a cancellation: they just put you through for another date), and was under the impression that if I cancelled/attempted to reschedule on the third attempt, I would lose the money for the test. Definitely call RSA to confirm this, though, it's possible that rescheduling doesn't count.

I would say that if you can't reschedule again, just do the test and put it down to experience. When I had my third scheduled date, I still wasn't ready (in any way, shape, or form) so I thought of it as a (albeit expensive) way of getting used to the procedure. I didn't do as bad as I thought I would (one stupid mistake leading to a grade 3, but only just failed on grade 2s) and am now far more confident about the second test, whenever that is.
