Unless you're talk a South African Citi Golf, any Mk1 will be vintage and a flat fee for VRT, it's a trivial amount, think €50 or so.

Once the car is 30 or more years old the vrt rate is €200.

Any pics of the car? I've a few old vw's myself.

Thanks for that. No I haven't bought a car yet, busy looking at the moment but nothing catching my eye here so starting to look over the pond.

Prices have taken a huge jump on mk1 gti's. Are you looking for a project or a car you can buy and drive?

Looking for a car I can buy and drive, Sold my 260z a few months ago so looking for something to replace that. don't want to break the bank either.
there's a couple of mk2 gti 16v that have caught my eye but I think I'd rather a mk1 if I can find a decent one

Both very nice cars, I've a 91 mk2 gti myself.
I'd like a mk1 gti but finding a good one at the right price isn't easy. Best of luck with the search.

Post anything you see here so we can advise.
