Lotto: Match 5 + Bonus

    In tonight's Lotto if you had of won the Match 5 + Bonus you would collected nearly €250k yet a couple of weeks ago you would only have won €50k.

    How do they work out how much the prize is? It doesn't seem to relate to the jackpot amount.

    It's a % of the sales for each draw (like a pari-mutuelle system). If it's not won it rolls over to the next draw and the % of the new sales is added to it. Same principle for all the prizes but anything from match 5 down is always won.

    Since they've increased the number of numbers the jackpot and the 5 + bonus isn't being won as often so is rolling over more.

    bit like the scoop 6 in horse racing, if its not won it rolls over and gets bigger
