Hi has anyone any experience of buying a pup abroad and taking it into Ireland. I am looking at a pointer in Poland and am thinking of flying over and taking it back by train and ferry, have seen prices of 1509 euros to fly pets here. Anyone have any advice

I dont think train would be an option, when the pup travels he may(will) vomit and soil everywhere you would not be fair on other passengers. The best place would be the back of a van sealed from the cab in a proper dog carrying box. One that can be hosed out and cleaned fairly quickly.
I dont know what if any import regulations there are for importing a dog from Poland that may also be a factor.

I have brought several dogs from Europe to Ireland. Its not cheap. Flying is expensive, I drove over and brought the pup in the back of the van. The pup had a passport and all vaccinations required. The ferry has a place for dogs and is straight forward.

Hi Enda, love to hear more, what type of dog did you take in? did you think you got value for money from taking the dog here, rather than buying from the smaller pool in Ireland? how long did the trip take and was the dog stressed by the trip.

I brought in some hounds, The reason i went abroad was because they werent available to buy in Ireland. All in the trip was over a weekend and one of the pups may have been stressed more visibly than the other two, make sure the pup has a passport and been wormed 24 hrs prior to arrival in Ireland.

Its no bother bring them in from poland. I got two bavarians couriered to my door a few years ago..it cost €250 per dog and the dogs were in great form when they arrived to my house. I still have one of them here now.
