Quick query - Walk up seats on Enterprise

    Hello there,

Quick one. Thinking of taking the family to Belfast for the day tomorrow.

Enterprise is listed as having very few seats available to reserve (can't get seats together) but there seems to be only a couple of carriages available to book.

Does that mean that we've a pretty good chance of getting seats together on another unreserved carriage tomorrow? Planning to head up on the 12 noon, back on the 7pm.

    Simon

Coach G will likely be your best bet, with the match today could a little busier than normal. Arrive early.

    Simon,

I take the Enterprise every week. I'm unaware of a 12 noon service, the services are 9:30, 11:20 and :13:20 takes 2 hours.

The only carriages you can reserve are A, B (First Class) and D (Standard Class). Standard Class for enterprise though is still way better than any other train on the island. C is the Dining Car. You can reserve D but it's not 100% necessary, the key in getting good seats in the rest of the train is how early you get there. Be there at least 20 minutes before departure, go to the right to the waiting area as instructed, then go up to the rope and bingo you are at the start of the que, in fact people will probably get up from seats and start forming a que behind you

Skip carriage E unless you get there first, and head for F/G (last two) (right after D) because a gridlock scrum always forms right at the start of E and nobody thinks to get out of the train and go around. At the Start of E and the end of G are the best seats right beside the doors they have the most space with smaller tables, most leg room. The one at the head of E has only one seat facing two others.

As long as you get there 20 minutes before departure you'll be able to stay at the top of the que and you'll be ok. If luck runs out and you can't get there in time you won't be without seats, it fills up fast but is rarely full full. If you are going all the way , for the sake of comfort and picking your best seats follow my advice above ^ while all the seats are the same its best to choose your own spot like the E seats I described, you might get someone very overweight with an f--- load of bags and spreading out on table beside you and it can make for a very uncomfortable ride.

Thanks for the advice all! We'll be sure to be there in plenty of time with our carriage strategy planned out.

Too late now, but the walk up fare is huge compared to booking online

Ended up buying the Family day return ticket which is good value at €91. Got there about 11.20 for the 12 noon train and got our table of 4 easily enough even though the train was busy. Lovely way to travel. Walked down the train for a nose around and noticed the reservation signs were working too :)

Oh that's good, last time I got the Enterprise walk-up was something like 40 quid one-way, was afraid you'd get badly stung. Glad it worked out for you
