Hi there, looking for some advise on my next family estate car. Thinking of a Mondeo, Avensis or i40, currently have a Golf and don't want to go down the VW route again! Budget €23k approx ....real world experience appreciated

Does it need to be a big estate? You'll pick up a brand new Renault Megane Sports Tourer for around 23k with a 5 year warranty:

Would the Renault not be more focus size car? the reason a was looking at the the mondeo/avensis/i40 is because the seem to used by reps and people who drive for a living hence they should be good for millage and space

Yes, it would be a rival to the Focus/Golf, but cars get bigger as new ones are launched. What year is your Golf?
Are you looking for more boot space, more rear legroom, more height?

Golf is going to a friend for cash, dont want pcp or any of that messing. It will be straight sale with cash and credit union loan:). If im buying an estate I want the most space possible thats the reason these 3 caught my eye.

They're certainly bigger alright. Even the current hatch Mondeo is massive inside.

Skoda Superb estate. I've a 2011 one. loads of room in the back, massive boot, very comfortable to drive

The Avensis is nearly 9 years old at this stage and not much bigger than the Megane estate. The i40 is long in the tooth also, the Mondeo would definitely be bigger than those too.

    For example:

Most space possible? Skoda superb. Although it is part of VW group I know you said you don't want VW again.

The estate looks ok from the model that ran up to 2015 too, unlike the saloon which is a horrible looking car.

Peugeot 308sw has large cargo area and Peugeot 508 is larger again. Both have 5 year warranty.

Friends had 406 years ago and it was great, then a 407..oh Dear! Don't really personally know anyone with a 508 so not really interested. Next car will be a big purchase for us so I suppose I want to play it safe. The hyundai appealed to me because of the warranty and they all seem to have a good standard spec. Don't believe a 1.6 is sufficient in a large family saloon car, but maybe it's because I came from the era of 2 litre "tdi's"😀.

On the plus side, buy a white i40, stick a high-vis vest on the back of the front seat and no one will overtake you.

The 407 certainly was not Peugeot's best. They have improved massively since then do and the 508 is a huge improvement on its predecessor. All the French marques have.

The Citroen C5 estate is another you could look at its classy and good looking.

The Opel Insignia is another all do myself I have never liked the look of the Insignia estate. The saloon was much better looking in my opinion.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

The Citroen c5 and the 407 are heavily related though.

    Mk1 C5 and 407 were siblings, whereas the 508 would be a sibling of the Mk2 C5.

Forgive my bluntness - but do you like giving away your money? PCP is the cheapest way to buy...

    Skoda Superb.
