Anyone ever used Autofind?

I know someone who's maybe buying a car from Autofind, they're based in Kilworth in Co. Cork. Basically, you tell them what car you want, they source it for you and bring it to your home or work to view. I'd never heard of them before. The person I know looking to buy from them met them this morning to see a car they'd brought to show her. A vehicle history check said it was still on finance so she hasn't paid them even a deposit until that's sorted.

From their website, it looks like it operates from someone's house rather than a business premises and they're also not registered with SIMI.

Anyone know of them or know whether to stay clear? The finance thing is ringing alarm bells with me cos you'd think they wouldn't be offering a car for sale until they knew that was sorted first.

Them not being members of the SIMI means nothing. It's probably a part time operations where a guy is sourcing used cars from the UK on request and selling them here for a profit, no different than the wheeler dealer type guys flipping cars on donedeal. My biggest problem is that what comeback to you have with this type of setup, I'd say very little. Imo at that rate you might as well go to the UK yourself and buy your own car rather than paying a middleman to do it for you.

As for the outstanding finance, I'd put money on the car being sourced from an auction house (it's where you usually pick up the cheapest ones) and the finance clearance paperwork hasn't been updated yet. I'd want the seller to get you the name of the Finance Company and ring them yourself with the car's UK reg and verify it with them that the finance situation with them. The Car history report company might also be able to help getting this information too if you ring them.
