Was looking at virgin maybe but they tell me my house doesn't support their service so sorry etc. How do I test line or capability etc as I don't know. I don't want a provider to sell me a package only to find out that my house has sh*t internet and no good for iptv. Looking for advice please....thanks

Just a reminder that you can use the Satellite Dish to receive all the Free To Air channels without any subscription to anyone, regardless your broadband speed.
There are lots of very good receivers to suit.

You would need an additional cheap terrestrial aerial to also receive the Saorview channels.

Of course if you have some specific channels like Sky Sports and such they would not be available FTA.

Is fibre broadband available to you, http://fibrerollout.ie/

I believe eir IPTV requires a min. 12 Mbps connection and Vodafone 40 Mbps for TV.

Thanks guys. Next chapter now. I have dish and antenna on roof. Antenna goes to smart tv with a mini combo box in kitchen for FTA channels. Dish to bloody dear Sky box .....So can I get a box for living room that can record the bloody soaps for her and does as the Sky+ does ? All we use early is the usual channels which are FTA anyway.
Is ther is such a box any recommendations please ?.

There are lots of boxes available with various functions.
You can get a simple combo box for ~€65 or less with a single terrestrial and a single satellite tuner.
If you want to watch a channel while recording another then you need a box with more functions.
IMO, you should try and specify your requirements so you can be advised correctly. ;)

Is the terrestrial signal coming in on the same coax cable as the Satellite signal, or on two separate coax cables?

Oh God, you're starting to loose me already. I have sky dish and cable going to sky in living room and antenna and cable going to FTA box in kitchen. Two separate systems. My requirements is yes I suppose want capability to record one channel while watching another or simply record all series of Corrie or Other such BS soap.

    You're getting there :)

In the living room do you want to be able to receive & record the Saorview Irish channels as well as the Satellite channels ...... or do you only need the Sat channels in the living room?

That will decide if you need a 'Combo' box or a straight 'Satellite' box.

If you only need the Satellite channels then maybe a Freesat HD box would fit the bill.

    Oh God !
I want the lot, full monty for not expensive monthly DD. Tell me quick before I end up in powecity spending 1000 yo yos on a new tv that I don't need :)

As I understand my internet is ok only. Virgin tell me my line not suitable for some reason so I guess not the iptv route so the best "combo" route maybe ?.

Thanks I only half know what I'm on about

The Virgin option is not available to you
they use their own cable to premises to which they provide their service. Apparently your home is not serviced by Virgin so that option is not available.

If you use the Satellite dish and aerial to receive your TV then there is no subscription to be paid to anyone for TV.
Your broadband is then separate and you can do as you wish without concern for the TV reception.

Apparently you will need an aerial cable to be added to the living room to get all the channels there ........ it is possible to add both aerial and satellite channels on one cable, but you might be better off getting an installer to make such arrangements.

From there it is a matter of selecting the best Set Top Box for your purposes.
I suggest (strongly) you do some research and reading about what the different STBs do. This is a good place to start IMO http://www.freetv.ie/ and do check out their videos as they can be informative, particularly those on 'combo' boxes.

Whatever you do, do not rush into this, else you will regret it.

Maybe something like the Amiko triple tuner would suit your needs ....... but hopefully others might post with their recommendations on the STBs.

Take your time .... this could be an investment in your TV reception for the future so try to get it right first time ;)

For Series Link of UK programs like Corrie get a genuine Freesat box. ebay or parcelwizard/parcelmotel

https://www.freesat.co.uk/channels - everything here is Free , Dave was added this week. Only

Use your TV with an aerial for Saorview.

Combo boxes take a bit of setting up , don't have a UK EPG and you have to program series link manually. Linux boxes take even more setting up.

Or pay Sky €'s to get all on one EPG
You'll have to pay Sky if you need certain channels. ie. Footie.

Kids channels have a lot of repeats - consider boxsets if you have younglings.

Use netflix / NowTV / Amazon for top up TV
