Just a quick question before I register for Income Tax via Revenue. If I expect to make €0 within the 1st 12 months, am I still liable to pay anything in terms of contributions? I'm starting up and in tent on registering for Income Tax soon.

My work as a Sole Trader will be part time and initially I expect to make less than €5000. My question however, is hypothetical and on the basis that I may earn €0.

You can't be taxed on nil

Thanks Gerry. Another quick question. Must I file a TR1 or will registering online with Revenue work in the same way?

not to hijack, but on a similar query, if I am self employed in 2017, I understand I do not need to register or pay anything this year. I just need to pay any tax for 2017 by the Oct 31st deadline in 2018? Or do I need to register as self -employed now and pay some preliminary tax before 2018?
