Boiler insulation board & heat blanket

    Hey
    So just wondering what ye use when you open up a boiler for a servicing and the gasket / ceramic fibre board is bet and falls apart ?!

    Likewise with the wool insulation in the base of boilers ?

    If the base wool insulation is in bad condition would you replace it with ceramic fibre blanket or the solid board ??

    The access door gaskets can be got easily enough to suit specific boilers but they are fairly expensive !!

    Anywhere to get big sheets and cut your own or what is the best solution ?

    Look up insulation in the same shop I pm'ed you.

    As for boards disintegrating, I alway ask customers to turn on the boiler the day before for 15 minutes to dry out boiler seals, gaskets and baffles (sounds impressive) so they normally do it, and most times !! they will tell you if there was a problem with it not working.
    Which is handy to know.

    Always fire the boiler yourself for a few seconds to confirm it's working before you start.

    If board is damp and breaks due to customer not following your instructions, that's not your fault.
    I always explain the risk to customer about small extra cost (if ti crumbles) of having to take off a damp board if boiler is not working.

    Yes you are definitely right about firing the burner first before you start ! At least you know if it works or not before you even start .! Im sure people have been caught out before by not testing prior to carrying out the work .

    Thats a good idea alright about running it the day before for a bit to warm up and dry out everything , im sure if people have an immersion , then they are rarely using the boiler for the last few months..
