E92 320i vs A5 1.8 TFSI

    Hey folks,

Following on from my previous E92 thread, I have come to the realisation that the 320i is probably more within my budget. There is one M-Sport on DD at the moment for €8000. However the A5 has since caught my eye.

I know this probably comes down to personal preference but which one is better say from the '08 era? Does this timing chain issue that I've heard about on the BMW affect the 320i model also?

Are similar A5s any cheaper than E92s? I would have thought that the A5 would retain a bit more resale value due to them only been replaced with a new model earlier this year.

I think you have to compromise on something, either increase the budget to get a cheap tax example or buy something with not so cheap tax within budget. BTW both the 320i and A5 petrol models have been known to suffer from timing chain stretching.

From what I can see on DD if that is anything to go by. There seems to be quite a few A5's with decent spec going for around the €7000 mark or a little under. However I may be comparing apples to oranges slightly because when it comes to the 320i I am erring for an M-Sport more so as it looks much better than the standard spec.

You're probably looking at bottom of the market examples there, high milage or non S Line models (Audi equivalent of M Sport).
