Travelling 1 adult and 4 kids by car from Dublin to Kenmare next Monday and had planned to go via Cork. Would like to stop for a bite to eat on the way but have never driven that route just wondering if anyone had anywhere they would recommend.

Is the Horse and Jockey on the way? Decent place for food.

If you are going by Mallow, the Roundabout Tavern would suit you.

Drive Dublin to Killarney regularly and find that Barack Obama petrol station feels about halfway. Usually pop in for a roll or supermacs. Personally not a fan of stopping once I'm off the motorway.

I drive this every two weeks or so for the last 20 years. Over that time I've found the cork ring road and out the n22 to be the best route by far. I always stop at the Amber garage in Fermoy. It's pretty much half way and they do a great selection of food ( Great pizzas for a fiver, full salad bar and a fast food place too). OP, take the first exit for Fermoy and it's half a kilometre on the left. I always head back the same way onto the motorway again, it's far faster, but if you want to avoid the toll just continue on through the town.

This is good advice, take the M8 to Cork and N22 turning onto the R569 to Kenmare via Kilgarvan. Junction 14 on the M8 at the Fermoy Amber is a great place, alternatively Junction 14 on the M7 is not bad either. Don't take the M7 to Limerick and then onto Killarney as the road from Killarney to Kenmare via Moll's Gap is atrocious. The Cork route is the way to go. Forget branching off for Mallow at Mitchelstown, another goat track bohereen.
