    Hi,
I put together my gaming PC today.
MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard with i7-7700k @4.2 ghz and 16GB ram on Windows 8.1 Pro.
I'm having trouble getting sound from my monitor speakers through HDMI connection.
Anybody have any idea what the problem is?
Would this have anything to do with the lack of a dedicated GPU (waiting for next paycheck), or should everything run with on board graphics?
I'm waiting for my optical drive to get here to install the drivers and utilities for the motherboard, but have had no luck thus far attempting to fix this issue.
    Sorry for newb.
    I'm new to PC building.
    Thanks.

don't get an optical drive, download drivers online

having drivers could sort out your issue

From the research I've done I think it has something to do with running Windows 8.1.

Apparently driver compatibility issues are common, unless running Windows 10.

Interestingly, I can't actually update the onboard graphics card (Intel HD 630), and it's not even listed in device manager as such - it's a basic graphics adapter.

Honestly think it's an OS issue so hoping that by attempting to W10, I'll negate said issues.
