I'm 26 living with parents and I'm an electrician so I get 45k basic a year, would I be entitled to get on the hap scheme? I am saving for a mortgage but at the same time I need my own space and can't rent and save at the same time. Any feedback appreciated

This is the first thing that comes to when you google hap scheme:

    *********
HAP will replace Rent Supplement for those with a long term housing need. Persons applying for HAP (Housing Assistance Payment) must be a qualified housing applicant(s) before they can apply for HAP.
    **********

Don't see a 26 yo on 40k+ pa qualifying. Thing is, you can afford rent, you just can't afford to rent and save. HAP isn't there to help with that. Maybe find a cheaper house share instead?

Typical Ireland the working get no reward,
Very hard to save for mortgage aswell and prices are insane.

It says on the site that you can work full time so if I was to get on the housing list then I could be eligible for the hap and get some rent relief no ??

You're on 45k at the age of 26. You're in a great spot, stop the bs ffs. Get out and house share if you don't want to live with your folks, you'll still be able to save every month if you're careful.

But the limit for earnings for the housing list is €30k and you have to be assessed as having a long term housing need

I know it's not bad I'll just have to sit tight with folks and keep saving then get ripped off for a small 1 bed apartment and probably be in negative equity in five years not great options are they or I could get ripped off renting snookered each way

Even if you did get onto the hap scheme you'd be paying a large percentage of the rent as you're working. It's not a free house despite what people seem to think, everyone pays a percentage of their rent working or not.

Oh and have you looked to see what amount your rent would be capped at and what type of place you'd be able to afford on that? It becomes less wonderful the more you look into it.
