wrist injury

Got one 2 weeks ago on my trailing hand (right hand for a righty) when I full force chopped down on a ball to get out of an awful lie. It's affected my game since as it's sore. Hitting the ball itself doesn't hurt to much but catching the ground at all on the swing does. Played twice with the injury and last time I played I must have bladed 5 wedges in a subconscious effort to prevent me contacting the ground. This must be a common injury. Has anyone else had similar? How long did it last?

This is where it hurts when I catch the ground. Or pick up an object. No pain other than those times.

Don't play while injured. Go to a doctor.

I'm no doctor but you are probably going to have to rest it and then likely strengthen it. Its definitely not going to get better aggravating it.

Rest it; there isn't anything else you can do with an impact injury. Its impossible to say for how long from this distance but a week minimum and maybe more.

If you don't let it heal you could miss months.

You might have popped a tendon in some sort of capacity. A friend of mine has that happen to him from time to time and he goes to a physio to get it sorted out.

First port of call should be a doctor or physio and they'll give you some decent advice one way or the other.

Contrary to the opinion from Blue up above, this friend of mine only started getting wrist injuries once he got the girlfriend. I'll let you work that one out for yourself.

Had something similar this year and got much worse as I tried to play through it. I eventually went to doctor he gave me anti-inflammatories and I had to rest it for 3/4 weeks which was a killer!

I didnt get physio because of funds at the time but my doctor said to get it if it was still sore after a week or 2 which it wasn't but she advised to still lay of the golf for a further 2 weeks so it heals fully. Which I did and has been grand since.

Are you sure it was golf Roadrunner ?

Go to a physio. Some people respond very very well ,

If it is something more serious - the physio will tell you to get xray.

    get a recommendation on here.

Don't play golf until you do something about it.

First port of call is always RICE

    Rest
    Ice

    Elevation

Cheers guys. Lots of rice, mrs roadrunner makes great curry!

Was on the timesheet for sunday morning, and wasn't feeling too bad at all so went out to play. Tried to play in such a way as to avoid full iron shots and any divots.
Was an interesting exercise in itself. Teed of with driver or three wood or hybrid on holes where I'd normally hit iron. My driving was mostly good and this tactic reduced wrist stress on both the first shot (no contact with ground) and the second shots as I was left with more of a pitch or even chip, rather than full wedge. Where I did have a full wedge or 9i once or twice- I'd club down and punch the ball with a more gentle swing. I was nervous of the bunkers though. I only got in one. On the 17th green. To cut a longer story shorter, this bunker caused me to scratch the hole but I saved my wrist from any trauma which is the greater goal here.

I left out the low bounce 54 wedge, which can be a bit diggy if you're not spot on, and replaced it with a hybrid in the bag to give me more options from long.

Finished 37pts (and minor cut) with no further tweaking of wrist, and no pain. Two bladed irons (due to subconsciously trying to not hit a divot) and the one bunker meltdown. Success.
