I'm looking for options on transporting my hardtail

Was initially looking at the Saris Bones 3 but am a bit worried that a rear mount rack might damage the cars paint so am now thinking about a roof system.

Micks Garage are selling these Aguri Acudasystems, I could get roof bars and the rack for €190. Has anyone any experience with Aguri roof racks? can't find any reviews online.

Other options are the Thule Proride 591 or the Proride 598 for a bit more money.
Anybody got an opinion on the Thule systems?

    Cheers.

I have been using the Saris Bones 2 for several years and I can say that there has not been any damage whatsoever to paintwork. It is a good rack - the feet are made of softish rubber which gives good grip and avoids abrasions etc. etc.

Another reason I'm considering the roof option is that I'll have the roof bars for transporting other things.

Thule proride is good. Waste of time if you are just transporting one bike though. Can you not stick it in the back if only one bike?

The major issue I have had with roof mounts is that you can't get into car parks with them on. Which may or may not be a problem for you.

I've been using a cheaper Thule roof bar for a while now and it's grand, transporting 14kg enduro. I'm still nervous of the bike on the roof though, drive more smoothly when it is, but I've had no issues thus far

Do you mean the Saris Bones 3? I'd like the option of carrying more than one bike in the future.

Don't fancy putting a muddy bike in the back of the car.

I have a Hollywood 3 bike rack for the rear of the car and never any damage.

I also have a Thule 532 roof runner and its basic but great as well. its only 65 euro in halfords. Rose bikes do Thule products at a good price.

I've done this, don't do it, you'll wreck the back of the car, I've a little bit of damage done to mine and it could possibly do some damage to the bike as well

I've the 532 as well, it's doing the job but sometimes I wonder if I should have spent a few more quid. It's grand though

i've had the Thule 591s and they're a decent rack. have had heavy bikes set up for touring and a carbon road bike up on them with no problems. one word of warning is not to trust the locking mechanism for security! my old CAAD9 met a sad end due to a combination of the flimsiness of the lock on the rack and my naivety.
