If everything else checks out, its getting full travel from the pedal to the operating lever it looks like the clutch itself is in trouble.

Had something similar on my wife's Golf when the clutch went. When the car was running I couldn't change gear at all. When the car was turned off I could change through the gears no problem. Had to put it in gear with the engine off then start the car and drive home in that gear.

Hopefully someone more mechanically minded can come along and explain why that was :)

I'm baffled sometimes it smooth when driving sometimes you have to litterly force it into gear and sometimes when van is not turned on it smooth other times it's notchy ? But way more sticky and notchy when driving than turned off

    Could be clutch slave/master cylinder

If the pedal feels soft I'd guess that some of the fingers in the pressure plate are broken/weak as a consequence the plate isn't been lifted squarely and it's dragging the friction plate around with it. The use of strong return springs on the pedal by most manufacturers tend to mask feeling clutch faults through the pedal. I'd bite the bullet and drop the gearbox and see what's going on.

I think it's a cable clutch. Be handy to know what make if van it is.

It's actually been replaced tommrow cause it's under warranty thank God but just want to see what people's opinions are but the mechanic said he's 100% sure it's a bad plate
