    Hi,

What would be a suitable rate per hour for somebody to help out in my home for 3 hours 3 afternoons per week. I have a 3 and a 5 year old but baby no 3 is due so Im hoping to find someone who can help by eg playing with older two, tidy up after dinner while I feed baby etc. As I will be at home at the same time this person doesn't necessarily have to have lots of experience. Any advice welcome.

I reckon about 10 euro an hour.
If it is a long term thing then you will need to register as an employer and pay min wage and tax.

Thanks Moonbeam. I'm not sure if it will be long term just yet, I'm thinking it will be a minimum of 3 months, will see how things are going once the baby is born. Hopefully baby no 3 will be a calm, happy baby and we'll get into some sort of routine by then! Would I still have to register as an employer?

Yes, as soon as they start working for you, you are an employer and are bound by employment laws, unless they work for you on a contract basis where they invoice you for services rendered, even then they can be deemed an employee by revenue (so they can pursue you for the juicy chunk of employer prsi) There have been a good few cases in recent years about the employment rights of au pairs and people doing this kind of work you should look them up for guidance.
