I read a very brief synopsis of this during ADIFF but then missed the screening and so in the interim had mostly forgotten what it was about........ which was probably a good thing as it meant I wasn't anticipating any of the story points.

Anyway, seen it last night and thought it was epic..............

It's harrowing, disturbing, haunting etc etc.........but the story is so well told and beautifully shot at the same time that it just makes for a thoroughly enjoyable watch. It's the debut film from writer/director too which makes it all the more impressive.

Only seems to be on at Cineworld though and will no doubt disappear quick sharp too (if other low budget films that they screen there from time to time are anything to go by at least).

10/10 from me anyway. Not to be missed.

I saw Hounds of Love at the Dublin Film Festival back in February. It was tough to watch at times but was a very effective and powerful film.

I’ve read a few recent reviews that describe it as ‘torture porn’ and compare it to Wolf Creek. That description couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s miles away from the pointless nastiness that films like Saw and Wolf Creek revel in. It’s beautifully filmed and very well acted by the three leads. I also really enjoyed the use of music throughout, especially the use of a Joy Division song towards the end.

And the final 20 minutes was so tense, I felt exhausted leaving the cinema!

A very impressive debut from a young director.

Seems very similar to another grim Aussie flick called "Snowtown".

I'd highly recommend the Case File podcasts that cover the events that those films are based on. The Snowtown one is superb even if it is incredibly dark
