Inspired by something i seen on twitter about Sam Shepard that described him as "Blackhawk Down Actor" Sam Shepard can you think of other actors that can be described using their least representative work or work that doesnt show them at their best e.g. "Meet the Fockers actor" Robert De Niro or "Island of Dr Moreau actor" Marlon Brando.

With all due respect, De Niro's recent work, and by that I mean the last 25 years, has resulted in rubbish like Meet the Fockers, Dirty Grandpa, ad nauseum. It almost outweighs his serious work

To be fair Ronan was his last decent film.

I always thought though that it was referring to them in regards to their modren work.

"Expendables actor Sylvester Stallone" or "Equaliser actor Denzel Washington" are ones ive seen a lot.

This is actually a game I play with a couple of friends in the US so I've plenty of examples! We play it that you introduce a respected famous actor by a flick they'd be embarrassed by.

Rocky & Bullwinkle's Robert De Niro?
    Jack & Jill's Al Pacino?
    Leprechaun's Jennifer Anniston?
Return of the Killer Tomato's Christopher Walken?
    Spice World's Richard E. Grant?
    Critters 3's Leonardo DiCaprio?
    Heart Condition's Denzel Washington?
    Howard the Duck's Tim Robbins?

    And of course more recently,

Transformers The Last Knight's Anthony Hopkins?

    Gigli's Ben Affleck.

(Edit: it was either that or Daredevil, but figured Daredevil actually got better in the extended cut, but nothing could make Gigli better)

In Britain when Michael Caine dies he'll be sixties lothario Alfie and spy Harry Palmr er Palmer, but in the States he'll the actor who played Alfred in the Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

Hardly unrepresentative though. If you had said "The Swarms" Michael Caine you might be on to something. Though some would say that is actually very representative of his work.

Playing a butler in a comic strip adaptation is unrepresentative though.

Playing a butler in a comic strip adaptation is unrepresentative though.

It's both good and an immensely popular film franchise, with a good performance by Caine, I would not say unrepresentative of his work at all really.

More on topic, 'Jaws: The Revenge' Actor Michael Caine... would be a terrible and unrepresentative film by which to present him.

Was it not George Clooney in that film, rather than Christopher Walken?

One more for the list - Big Momma's House's Paul Giamatti.

and Coronation Street actor Patrick Stewart.

I remember Ebert pointing a review where they described the star as Laurence "the Betsy" Olivier, referring to the Lord's role playing a sex-happy badly Kansas-accented millionaire car mogul called Hardeman in a typical slice of Transatlantic pornographic muzak by Harold Robbins.

You could say 'Zulu' is unrepresentative of Caine. Who would have thought that cockney chappie Maurice Micklewhite would be on for playing a terribly posh, toffee nosed commisioned officer, Gonville Bromhead?

Although, I don't think that the real man was quite as posh as Caine portrayed him.
