A friend of mine was left the family home which his parents bought in the 50's.
He has just found out that there is 15 years left on the 99 year lease of the house!
His solicitor's advise was not to worry about it!!
What should he do or what can/will happen once it expires?

He should be able to buy out the freehold / ground rent. I'd say it's a common enough occurrence, but I'd recommend looking into it sooner rather than later.

You can read here or here for some more info.
