I got a letter where i was asked/threatened to allow my name go forward for interview for a place on a community employment position on the TUS scheme. How have people who participated on this scheme felt about their experiences? Is it a case of throwing you any job?I believe your wages are taxed? So if i am gaining another 22 euros on my 193 euros JSA payment, how much money will i lose due to my wages being taxed?Does the scheme consist of 2 day's work a week or are the working hours spread out for an entire week?

I think it's just general community work, cutting grass, painting etc. I'm not 100% sure though, I'm sure it won't be anything too hard. Might be a stepping stone into a full time job.
I can answer you tax queries though!
    You won't pay tax:
€215 p/week * 52 weeks = €11,180 assuming you have all your tax credits you won't pay any PAYE you need to earn €16,500 before you'd pay PAYE.
You need to earn €352 per week before you pay PRSI so you won't be paying that.
I assume you have you also have a medical card which means you won't pay USC.

You won't pay tax or usc.
I did a tus scheme placement a couple of years ago.
Maybe I was lucky but the person who did the interview and during the year did the monthly reports who was really nice and professional.
For me the year was a great experience. I was in admin in a specialised day centre and learned a lot and found the people who worked there and the service users very welcoming and helpful.
When I applied for my current job the manager of the centre gave me an excellent reference.

Im just wondering how are the 19.5 hours spread out.Are the hours spread out over the working week or is it something like 2 full days of work and then a half day on the third day?I have an interview next week. Will you be offered a job there and then or will they get back to you?

Usually week on/week off. No tax if you have your own tax credits.

    its on your own
Made the hours myself that way so I was the last 6 weeks off for holydays to Canada
Worked at a community center that was busy in wintertime and had almost nothing to do in summer so made in Winter full time weeks
And yes after left TUS I got a job out of it for 20 hours a week so some have the luck of that
And yes I did like the jobs I had to do there and already asked then if I still unemployed and still not at a CE scheme I could come back next year

Anyone know if Tus covers sick note costs? Was out sick for three days and went to the Doctor for a Sick cert, was charged €15! Out of €215 per week that's a good chunk of change, that I just don't have.

I finished up a JobsBridge placement in June as an IT administrator. I was promised a job when I started as the jobsbridge scheme was being shut down. In August, I was told that there would be no position for me as they had got 2 Tus workers in to fill in the role. It was a huge kick in the teeth as I had put in a massive amount of work into the role. I have now had a letter in the post asking to complete a form to apply for a position on the Tus programme and my payments may be affected if I do not participate. Has anyone refused to apply for Tus?

I didnt refuse but I was called for an interview a week before I was due to start a college coirse. I brought in all the letters from the college and the likes and the guy who was looking after the tus program said perfect u dont need to do it as you have a career plan and he would let social welfare know.
Low and behold a week later I get a letter from the sw calling me in for a review of my jsa due to my refusal to take part in the tus scheme.
This review involvedthem going through every job I had applied for and coming to the conclusion that I wasnt doing enough to get a job amd did actually cut me off. I appealed ooandn the basis that I didnt refuse to do it and got back on via the bte allowance.
    So just be wary
