Reapplied for the CAO what is my best option

    I finished my first year of Commerce in NUIG, I don't want to go back to it, I just don't have any interest in 90% of it but thankfully I do enjoy the Business Information System side of my degree, if that was not a module I would have dropped out long ago.

    I have other options, granted I pass my repeats, I can move to an IT college and go straight into second year of the BIS degree.

    I had software dev and Computer Science down on my cao (when I reapplied) but I took them off last minute. Now I'm also tempted to take a year out and reapply (aged 21 by that stage) and go into CS in the college I am currently in or Software dev in the IT.

    I would have to take the maths exam to qualify (for CS in the uni) since I am (or I was before the grading system changed) below the threshold for the maths requirement.

    My parents just want me to be in college regardless, they don't like the idea of taking a year out, probably because I'm liable to not go back in their eyes..

    I also talked to my lectures and my information management lecture suggested staying put and since it's a 3 year degree going into a post grad in data analytics or some similar field, because a degree and a masters beats a degree.

    So I can stay put, get through another year of general business and a year of specialisation, then a post grad.

    I can transfers to BIS in an IT college straight into 2nd year granted I pass my 3 repeats (i know, I was not going to stay in my degree and I didn't do my continuous assessment).

    I can take a year out, work on my programming/IS, work part time (save for college) see which side I enjoy more as I go and either reapply for BIS (possible pass exams, get into second year by passing my upcoming exams and deferring then into) 2nd year, first year Software Dev (less maths and physics) or computer science in the UNI I am currently in by passing the entrance exam in maths.

    Or my final option;
    I could work on web dev, HTML, programming in general along with IS, blockchain, get my Certs in software dev and BIS, work my part time job, build a portfolio in the two areas I've mentioned and ultimately work full time. Which from what I've read, is a genuine option, experience and a good portfolio are valued more than a degree.
    I know a degree may hinder me going forward for managerial rolls but my end goal aim is to be self employed.

    I know very mess, if you got this far thank you! Any advice?
