171 BMW 3 series - bluetooth issue

    Hi all,

    I got a new 318D in April.

I'm having an ongoing issue with my bluetooth. I have a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016). It connects fine to the car. But, 80% of the time, as soon as anyone calls or I call, the bluetooth drops. The call isn't dropped but the connection to the speaker in the car is so I have to pull over and take the call on the phone.

Anyone any ideas or hear about this. Before I go back to BMW, it might be a Samsung issue rather than a BMW issue? It has become quite frustrating now as, more often than not, it means that the bluetooth is useless.

    Thanks!!

Can you try a different phone to rule that out?

Try re-pairing your phone first and if issue persists, as above, try a different phone.

All the phones in the house are Samsungs!!

I'd need to try it over a day or 2 to see so might have to borrow someone elses.

If another Samsung works at least it points to your particular phone.

Doh!! Never thought of that - my wife has the exact same phone so I'll swap sims and try hers.

Sometimes the solution can be so obvious that you can't see it!:P

    Thanks Colm!!

Delete the car from the phone and the phone from the car, then re pair. Solves a lot of issues doing that.

Maybe check that the phone is on the approved list of phones on the BMW website. Had issues with 3 Series Bluetooth in the past but with older phones not working.

I've the same basic bluetooth system in my 5 Series and haven't had any issues with my Samsung phones. I had a S5 and now have a S7, all have no issues with calls. Had a Nokia windows phone (for my sins) before that and no issues with bluetooth on that either and currently there is an iPhone6 paired also.

As said rule out the phone as been the problem before heading back to the dealer because that is what they will tell you.

Have you tried shouting at it and shaking your fist?

You could ask the dealer if there is an update available for your bluetooth module. That should solve it.

That only works in the new Golf. Don't think the 3 series has gesture control

    Quite a few times!!

It's the first new car that I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine (company) car but i can be out of the office a bit and it's amazing how annoying it can get (never mind dangerous at times).

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!
