    Hi all,
Would appreciate any replies on this question asap as hope to buy the vaccine later today,my vet away so out of contact unfortunately.
Bought some ewe lambs at weekend which I intend to keep as replacements, will be buying some more too in next while. They won't be put to the ram this Autumn.
Owner of ones I bought said their mothers got Heptavac P Plus before lambing but he doesn't cover the lambs at all.He recommended giving them Heptavac P Plus now, they came off good grass and will be going onto good grass with me.
My question is if you were buying ewe lambs to keep as dry hoggets would you do them with Heptavac P Plus (slightly dearer) or Covexin 10?....with some of course they could have been covered with something already in Spring.
I know they both cover slightly different diseases. So bearing in mind I have more lambs to buy I will be getting a decent amount of vaccine today.

Anyone that buys relacements ewe lambs or sells breeding hoggets might have advice on this,
Thanks for any replies today, B.L.

I'm not a vet but pasteurella pnuemonia covered by Heptavac P+ would be common enough here, the extra clostridial diseases in covexin aren't that common,
Every farm is different and it's just by trial and error that you get it right, we had to do covexin 10 plus Ovipast for a while to cover us because of sardellii but have gone back to Heptavac p+ now and getting away with it

Careful buying enough vaccine to cover all the lambs you've yet to buy. Once you broach the bottle it has to be used within 24 hours.

In other words don't buy 1 bottle intending to use in a few weeks time.

I'd probably go with the heptavac. I've found it a good vaccine here. The price difference per sheep would be small anyway.

The way around this is to put candle wax on the top of it and put it in the fridge.

Thanks J.O. Farmer,I use the tip that kk.man mentioned above to get around that one.
Vote so far seems to be to go with Heptavac P Plus😀

Does that work ? What's the science behind it ? Would be great if It did, lost count of number of half full bottles youd throw away.
Also do ewes in the few weeks before lambing, but nearly guaranteed to loose 1-2% of lambs at 2 month mark if I didn't give them their own vaccinations. Find them much of a muchness . Used covexin 10 here this year without issue.

Give it every chance to work, don't put a dirty needle into the vaccine, seal the top after use. We use clingfilm. we never had a breakdown leaving it in the fridge
Aternatively we use an automatic syringe and the connection to the bottle is airtight so we just put automatic syringe and all into the fridge

+1. I think at this stage everyone should have an automatic syringe. They are not that expensive and will last along time if minded and kept clean. And if they are used the way tangled suggest you will have no problem with vaccines going off. I always squirt the first shot out on the ground when it's been lying up just to be on the safe side
