If there'd be such an option?

    Just recently went through this:

Poland to arm police with credit card terminals?

Personally I try to avoid paying at all (just trying to avoid breaking ROTR), but nobody's perfect, so IF... I'd indeed prefer to have a possibility to pay by card on the spot to have a peace of mind and not to remember to get a FCPN to a post office on time etc etc etc...

    Would you? 23 votes

Since our police force don't tell you if they are going to issue an FCPN at the side of the road the chances of being able to pay a fine is slim.

The French and Spanish police will take you to an ATM if you don't have enough cash on hand to pay a fine

Garda stations don't even all have email, this sort of technology won't arrive here for 50 years plus....but yes I would pay on the spot if I was 100% guilty and saw no possible route to appeal it.

In Spain you also get a discount for quick payment.
Last year I picked up an 80 euro ticket, but only had to pay 40 euro for a prompt online payment.
So if there was that type of incentive and no contest, yep, pay up and get on with it.

I've been caught speeding twice in Poland and both times they took my licence and followed me to an atm to withdraw cash.
In Ireland ive also been caught speeding and they told me the fine and points and that's that.
Polish fines aren't very cheap and there are no incentives that I know of if you pay straight away but I'd bet there will be some sort of additional processing fee on top of that.
Considering this is being implemented for foreigners then what happens if the person refuses or contests? Pay up and come back and appeal? Or arrested on the spot?
But yeah if I'm wrong and I can I'd pay.

Quantity not quality. Guards can even get their Garda emails on their phones now.

Ha very true, it's actually hard to have a discussion with this poster as they post about 200 posts per day so they are moving so fast in and out of random sub forums.

On the off chance he does come back and read the thread I would hope he retracts his lies.

Yes I suppose it's all fake news ...

However, I understand from the Garda authorities that every Garda station has been allocated a computer but, as I informed the Deputy in response to Parliamentary Question No. 13 of 16 February 2017, there are some 178 stations that are not connected to the Garda Network. The Deputy will be aware that the matter of enhancing rural access to the Garda network by connecting non-networked sites to the Garda Network is an initiative under the Garda Sh Modernisation and Renewal Programme 2016-2021. This includes plans to introduce mobile technology solutions to enable operational Gardao access core information systems, including PULSE, while on duty and away from Garda stations. Providing members with real-time information on mobile devices, as well as enabling investigation teams to collect and share information digitally, will improve the effectiveness of the service provided to communities. Work on this has commenced.

Looks like it's only pointing at foreign residents which in Poland are obliged to pay traffic fines on the spot anyway and always were.
Only difference now will be they won't need to fork out of cash or run to ATM, but will be able to pay by card on the spot.

I assume Polish residents will still be getting fines from police and have 7 days to pay it (by bank transfer).
Good thing though comparing to Ireland, is that you get a fine on the spot so you know straight away what you're being fined for and how much and how many penalty points, unlike here where you might be wondering if fine will arrive in the post or not.

In Poland only people who don't have a permanent place of residency (meldunek) have to pay fines on the spot. Doesn't matter if you've an Irish licence or not!

So do we. It's €80 within 28 days and then increases to €120.

Didn't know that, been many a year since I got a ticket or a fine in Ireland.

We have a late payment penalty rather than an early payment discount.

I think the Spanish way sounds better :)
Although in Spain, traffic fines will be increased if the original amount is not paid within a given time frame. Failure to pay after a few notices and they will go after your bank account to get the money.
