Self drive minibus rental

Group of us (7) are heading over to Wales in Oct. We want to hire a minibus rather than bringing 2 cars. Most of the hire companies won't allow you to take it to UK and Dan Dooley (who will) are looking for around 1200 Euro for Thurs to Sun rental. Anyone got an alternative suggestion for me. Live close to Shannon so airport or even Limerick city for pick up would be great. TIA

If it's a group of 7 then rent a 7 seater instead of minibus.
    Shouldn't be that expensive.

Do you need to drive over? I got flights and a car for less than the ferry a couple of years ago, was going to Essex so also avoided the long drive. Look for cheap Ryanair flights and a pick up at the airport or I've seen loads of self drive mini buses from the UK here.

Do you have a D1 licence? Otherwise it'll have to be a 7 seater and the majority of them have tiny seats in rear and have no luggage space, so a long journey could be a painful experience for some passengers.

Regular car licence (category B) covers vehicles up to 9 seats including driver, so a 9 seater transit or similar can be driven on B licence.
D1 only needed for more then 9 seats including driver.

We're going on a shooting trip so have quite a bit of gear hence 7 seater no good, Ryanair don't take guns and Aer Lingus charge as much for bringing a gun as the person !!

could you not get a 7 seater and trailer for the gear?

Not really, where would we get one with a tow hitch and then trying to pull a trailer across this country and then Wales too. A bit too much like hard work !!

I think the trailer is a good idea I don't think you're allowed carry firearms on the back seat anyway. Ideally if you could get the likes of an 8(passenger) seater Renault passenger you wouldn't need the trailer as they are the only minibus I know that actually have a decent boot space, especially the lwb version.

Budget won't let us take it out if the country. Looks like we might just have to bring 2 vehicles

Not going to work if they are carrying firearms, license holder has to be present.
