    Hi All

I am considering buying a 2nd hand Leaf, just wondering would anyone know how much it would cost to have a charging point fitted at home so that I can factor that into the cost - I doubt its free if you are buying 2nd hand

    Thank you

You'd be looking at between €200 and €300 for the chargepoint, and the same again for installation depending on complexity.

Keep your eye on adverts, eBay and the speakev forum in the uk. Also the Facebook groups.

I got a nearly new 32a capable charge point for €200 recently.
I'm getting it fitted as part of my house extension so I'm not 100% of the exact cost as it's my mate doing the work but it's cheap.

If you budget €500ish total you should be covered.

Brilliant thanks a mill for that I was afraid it was going to cost a lot more

You all seem so knowledgeable about EVs I am really getting so much info reading the threads here, hopefully I will be joining you soon

Most of us bluff and make it up as we go along.

Take a read of this thread

The labour costs will entirely depend on the complexity and length of the run from your consumer unit to the outside wall you are mounting the charge point on.

The hardware costs you can see from the thread I posted above and obviously cheaper again if you buy a second hand charge point. €500 is a good ballpark figure if you do some sourcing yourself. If you have any relatives that are electrician's you'll do it very cheap.

To be honest, no one can really tell you how much the install will cost. Sure you might be able to pick up a cheap wall unit online/second hand but you might not. The tethered rolec unit often recommended here is over £400 on Amazon. The cost of the install depends on the distance from your distribution board and whether or not you have other high draw appliances in the house (like an electric shower). The costs you've been quoted here are for an easy install with second hand parts, are far from typical.

I'd give a strong health warning with the above figures and strongly recommend you get a few quotes from a reci before proceeding. Otherwise you might get stung for a lot more than you expect.

Maybe leave the advice to people that have actually done the install Oppenwhiner.

Is there anything incorrect work what I've said? The rolec tethered is over £400 on Amazon and no one here knows the difficulty of the OPs install. Telling the OP it will be covered with a €500 budget is nothing more than a guess and one that is closer to the absolute best possible price rather than typical.

It's overselling, rather than being realistic, a common feature of posts in this forum.

Have you ever purchased a unit or done an install? No? Well there's plenty on here who have, and have done complex ones, so there's no need for you to come along muddying the waters with your nonsense.

Give the OP a fair chance and wait for the experienced posters to come along.

    To the OP:

I purchased a Rolec untethered unit from evonestop.co.uk for 318 sterling and paid an electrician 200 euro for the install. Made sure to tell him it was almost identical to installed an outdoor 32a socket to avoid any confusion, since many wouldn't have done one and may not price the job appropriately.

I paid €400 approx, for a new Chargemaster 32A. Friend a sparks installed for €70, which I suspect was the cost of materials. Took about 40mins.

So if your paying a spark, it's a call out for a one hour job.
Handy if you have a few other small jobs to be done. Bundle them together.
A priority switch would add to the price.
Orebro paying €200 would be about right.

That bolded statement is incorrect. It can be done for €500 with new parts and typical enough based on other posters, but does of course depend on complexity of the job.

Looking back at the few posts we all said "€500ish", "depends on complexity" so the health warnings were given so I think you can come off the horse.

Also, the Rolec charge points can be bought for €370 so quoting Amazon at £400 is just a bad price.

A certain supplier/installer quoted €900 to me. If he hadn't been so greedy, he might have got the job. Knew it was way out of line.

I went for the more expensive rolec with the tethered cable and the 3 pin domestic socket (which comes in very handy btw). It cost over €500 delivered.

I rang a couple of sparks who gave stupid quotes. One was over €900 and that was with me supplying everything. They were either milking it, or hadn't a clue how simple the job was.

In the end, I got my install done for under €300, which included a priority board supplied and fitted for the shower and a separate minor electrical fault repaired which involved some rewiring in the attic.

You certainly can have it all done, including Charge Point for well under €500 if it's a simple install and you buy a cheap, or second hand unit.
