Nice to see police doing a good job. Couldn't imagine what would happen if they brought down a plane.

Counter-terrorism police in Australia have stopped a suspected plot to bring down an aeroplane, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said.

Why couldn't you imagine what would happen? You don't even have to imagine, plenty precedence.

If it happened in Australia in today's climate it would be a lot different to anything like this that has happened before

I do believe it's an expression people use.

I didn't see any Mexicans in East Berlin prior to 1989.

If they'd kept the wall, sure they'd have kept Angela in in the KGB.

    Masons?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Imagine you were sent to live in a desert, or a cave in Afghanistan, and beer and bacon are now forbidden. Also, no sex til (arranged) marraige - you literally can't even look at a woman. Make sure you're not gay btw. The theocratic state supports all this and the punishment for apostasy is the death penalty. Well you might be a bit eh unstable...

Basically your whole being is adhering to this religion and then some people, who refuse to believe, imply that your joyless lifestyle is all for nothing. Couple that with your own (mis)interpretation of your storybook to justify your actions and I see how these things happen.

the lure of virgins in paradise would seem like a better alternative, plus you die as a martyr. win win

Australia takes in Lebanese-Muslim refugees between 1975 - 1990 and their sons repay them by trying to blow up the country that gave their parents refuge.

I have a feeling Islamic terrorism in Europe is in its infancy. Things are going to get much worse.

It'll be grand, paedophile rings in the UK, suicide attacks in France, sexual assaults in Sweden and mass stabbings in Germany are just blips on the path to multiculturalism.

In the media over here that it was an Ethiad flight to Abu Dhabi with 500 people that they were planning to target. If true there would have been many UK and Irish amongst others on board as its a popular route to connect through Abu Dhabi.

Frightening as a lot travel home this time of year.

Even that reasoning doesn't work, because many prominent Western attacks (Paris, London, Belgium, Germany) have been carried out by nationals who have grown up enjoying the same freedoms and rights we do.

They aren't allowing it, they are using all the tools they have to stop it

Unfortunately some people want them to go further, which means sacrificing basic principles and rights and creeping ever closer to some dangerous lines

Not really, you remember the Ukrainian seperatists took down the plane with Dutch people on it like a few years back. Everyone is like WW3! Nothing happens.

That's not what jihadi life is like at all. You have goddamn sex slaves. Jihadis today are not AQ stoic types. They are kids blitzed out of it on drugs and barely six months since their last jail sentence in some god awful suburb in Belgium. You may need to upgrade your understanding of the issue.

Exactly, we're not dealing with religious fanatics in any usual sense. Rather a blend of criminal and quasi-religious vibes.

'Jihadi chic' from the ghetto, where the most badass thing you can do is go full terrorist.

Jihadis tend to be better educated, from stable homes and higher rate of employment than their peers.

There is only one way to avoid Judgement day in Islam and that is death in battle against those who are not of Islam.

Why would they bomb their own airline?

Other Arab nations accuse Qatar of not having done enough to present extremism and funding of jihadist groups - of course they don't mind that the accusation is also taken literally

The Qatar incident is down to who they support, rather than that they support Jihadis.

They nearly all support Jihadis and Islamic extremism to some degree.
