Washing Machine: Broken Part ? mystery object

    Hi

Moved into a new house and noticed clothes had some gray residue on them after the wash. So I found advice that it could be due to cheap liquid used to wash clothes and I ran a hot cycle with bleach. Machine super clean. I have also cleaned the filter and found some pebbles in it. At least they looked like small stones.
After that I noticed occasional gray streaks plus inside the drum what looked like very coarse sand. I did suspect kids, but have since ran a few washes and no way it is coming from anything left in the pockets.
So final clean of filter and I found sth that cannot be a stone as it has numbers on it!

Aliens or part of washing machine?
    Please help...

Machine does not make any unusual noise. Apart from gray streaks occasionally clothes seem to be washed.

    TYIA for all your feedback.

Looks like a piece of clay pottery that is slowly disintegrating in the water, could be a piece of school artwork that ended up in a pocket.
or something like a dog tag with the owners phone number on it
    But that's all pure guesswork!

it is actually pieces off the shaft assembly on the drum that is disintegrating, getting very near replacement time

wow! The quality of the materials used must be absolutely appalling to disintegrate like that!

I find that the common denominator for this problem is the continuous use of liquid detergent, it just seems to break down aluminium

On that note, I do wonder about the new Bosch i-DOS washing machine which has reservoirs for exactly that - liquid detergents.

Maybe as it controls dosage, it won't be too much, enough to ruin aluminium parts?

That is what I was afraid of...

I did find a liquid detergent in the cupboard when I moved in.

Can you give me an estimate of whether I should get it repaired or get a new one? Also, any idea how urgent it is.

In the last wash I had no more debris.

Filter is clean, I check it after each wash. But there is a pipe to the left of the removable filter part and there is sth wedged in it, impossible to remove.

THANK YOU so much for all your replies!!!

too expensive to sort, just use it until the shaft breaks, usually smoke will appear when the drum rubs off the gasket but it wont go on fire
