    Hello All,

I've been driving for years and the g/f is now learning. She has driven a small bit before so is not a total novice. I'm just looking for suggestions for a good place to have the first one or two informal lessons before she starts her professional lessons. Somewhere with lots of space on the southside of Dublin so she can just get to grips with the basics again before going out into traffic.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking Pheonix Park or a big car park/industrial estate?

    All suggestions welcome.

    Thanks a mill.

    :) Sparks.

UCD carpark out of hours might be a start.

Phoenix Park is great! Just make sure you have the L plates up! :)

I'd actually say that she would be better off with an instructor showing her the basics again. I can see where you're both coming from but there would be a lot to gain by starting off with an instructor and starting off on the right foot.

In between those first lessons runs around the car park to get used to the clutch would be a decent idea I reckon.

Have to agree, some drivers can pass bad habits off so starting with the Pro would be ideal and maybe you help her then when she is between pro lessons.

She just needs to practice starting off and going up and down gears a few times. To be ready for the functional activities of driving.

OP just find a car park that doesn't have much use, or an industrial estate with a wide, long straight stretch.

Don't be taking her out into traffic.

On a Saturday or Sunday, try Sandyford Industrial estate. Plenty of corners, junctions, some rising hills. Plenty of opportunities to do some reverse around the corners, three point turns etc. Good place for her to practice in between lessons too.
