College Mentor Experience for Mature Students

I'm curious. Most third level colleges have some sort of mentoring program. I was a mentor and mentee back in the day. However do people think the mentor service works for mature students?

At the end of the day I'm sure it depends on how the particular college organises it and then probably more important is the students who apply to be a mentor a given year, and also how the students take up their support.

I'm interested to hear what people's opinions and experiences are.

As a mentee, I found it good. Not necessarily for the "showing of ropes" by the mentor, but for the fact that all the mature students in the same program were organised into groups - it made making friends/getting to know each other much easier. I know being part of the mature student society lends itself to the same thing more or less, but it could be weeks before they have their first event of the term.
