I'm in athlone and 46k from transmitter in Longford.
Will an aerial in the attic work? And I'd so what type should I get?
    Thanks!

Impossible to tell. What are your tiles made of? Is the direction of Longford through other peoples roofs? Do you have a water tank up there?
So many variables. Best ask a local installer.

Cairn Hill would be the transmitter, UHF channels 44 & 47, Group K aerial

As posted previously, not possible to say how well it'll work in the attic.

Very very good chance that a decent aerial will work the finest.

I've picked signal from that transmitter from much farther away than Athlone, using €15 aerial.

As other poster says though, there are variables so can't be 100% sure

Virtually every rooftop aerial in Athlone is a pretty basic contract, the signal from Cairn Hill is very strong.

Older thick Roof Tiles (house build circa 1990) , I would be pointing the aerial northwards towards Longford so the aerial would be pointing directly through the roof ( no walls)

Yeah might ask local installer. (Dont really want an external aerial)
