Steering rack

    Hi all

I have a quote to replace a steering rack. The car has failed nct on inner tie rod end and they advised other parts of the steering may not pass the next nct. The manufacturer garage says the steering rack will need to be replaced in the future.

To fix the nct fail is not too bad at 192 euro including 4 wheel alignment. I'm being quoted over 2.5 k to supply and fit the rack. Can this be done cheaper? The car is 2011 and second hand. It does not appear to have been abused and looks more like manufacturer fault but you never know.

    DP

As they are not that common most likely you may have to get rack from UK or get your own rack repaired there is a few companies in Ireland who should be able to do it for you, it would be no harm to get a recommendation of a good local independent garage who could also give you a 2nd opinion on the need for rack repair and most cost effective repair route if needed
