Is it possible to turn off those stupid status posts that are now appearing as big images with text and force it back to just normal text without peoples weird ideas of what are pleasant colours to look at being forced on us?

Yay, have just discovered a Chrome extension that does away with the eye burning colour status updates: :)

Now to see if there is a way to banish them from my phone as well.

Aye, that's a handy extension alright.
If you have an ad blocker you can probably block the webelement that is used to display the colours.
